IAC To Acquire Ask Jeeves For $1.85 Billion – March 24, 2005

IAC/InterActiveCorp, which operates a variety of online and offline businesses, including CitySearch, Expedia, and Ticketmaster, today said it will acquire Ask Jeeves Inc., for $1.85 billon. Ask Jeeves is the fourth-largest Internet search engine and, by comScore Media Metrix's measure, the ninth-largest Web s article. For the entire press release, click here.

Google Sued Over News Content – March 24, 2005

French news agency AFP has sued the Web search engine for using its photos and story excerpts in the Google News service, violating AFP's copyrights. Yahoo (YHOO) 's news service also includes AFP stories, but pays for the service. Google (GOOG) agreed to remove disputed items. AFP, which is seeking $17.5 mil in damages, will proceed with the suit. Google rose 21 cents to 178.98. Read the entire press release.

This may be an old hint, but it’s amazing how many PPC advertisers forget to ensure they have included common misspellings of their most important keywords in their bidding. Especially if you are selling a product, think up common ways people might spell the name wrong or use a keyword bidding tool to help with your brainstorming. Of course, this is especially so with pharmaceutical products, but even with everyday products where people tend to transpose two letters in their spelling, bidding can be cheap and effective on such alternative keywords that can still lead to a conversion.
