Business.com Launches Work.com– May 6, 2005

Business.com, a PPC search engine and directory dedicated to business-related issues has announced its latest offering - a new job search engine designed to connect those looking for employment with premium employers. This is the first employment site of its kind that features pay-per-click pricing for employers advertising openings, as opposed to standardized fees. Another unique feature is a direct link to the employer's website, so that the applicant applies directly on the "careers" portion of the advertiser's site, rather than on the search engine itself, as most other job boards operate. Business.com states, "by managing the application process directly through the hiring company, professionals maintain control, avoid the resume "black hole," and protect their privacy." Latest Review From May 2005

PPC Tool Review of the Month

With click fraud on everyone's minds these days, this month's featured review of a pay-per-click-related tool is of a product that is a a relatively new addition to the number of companies either adding click fraud detection to their analytics packages or offering stand-alone click fraud detection options. PPCtrax.com debuted in mid-February of this year.

PPCtrax.com – A new standalone software click fraud detection offering, PPCtrax offers three packages for those looking for a way to identify potential click fraud in their pay-per-click ad campaigns. This new offering differs from others in that all three packages offer the same basic service - the main differentiation in choosing an option is the number of URLs your company needs to monitor. They also will look into past traffic on your website to identify past fraudsters and claim assistance with helping secure refunds from PPC search engines. Read more ...

Featured Article Of The Month From Our Website

This month we're continuing the theme of click fraud with an article written by a victim of click fraud and his thoughts on his experience, the problem in general, and suggestions and thoughts on what the industry can do to try to stop this increasing threat.

If you’ve ever thought that you might be a victim of click fraud in your PPC ad campaigns, Eli Feldblum, the Director of Marketing at Did-it.com has written an informative article describing his reaction to blatant click fraud on his website - as he terms it, "from one victim to another".

Read this thought-provoking article here.

Hint Of The Month

Click fraud certainly is on everyone's minds these days. The market is still trying to get a handle on the extent of the problem, estimating it anywhere up to 50% of clicks. Given this, some webmasters wonder how they can ever manage to combat click fraud?

The key to dealing with click fraud is being willing and able to spend the time necessary to identify potential sources of fraud and act on each and every case you can provide a "paper trail" for via the reports you receive either from your PPC search engine or from your web analytics program (if you use one). Depending upon the cost of your keywords, click fraud can drain your account slowly or as quickly as in a few hours.

Plan your approach carefully. First, decide if you can afford to employ a third-party click-fraud detection system (usually included in any web analytics program these days). If you can afford this extra expense, comparing the reports and stats you have access to on your PPC search engine with third-party reports will show different statistics because of their different means of operation, but remember to look not just for the blatant click fraud indicators but also common instances between your two analytics sources. If your budget won't stretch to a third-party addition to your toolset, be prepared to spend more time examining your PPC ad campaign reports than you might be used to if you want to identify any click fraud before it becomes a major problem for you.

And finally, don't hesitate to contact your PPC search engine for help with identifying and dealing with click fraud. Some are more responsive than others, but in the long run, if your search engine isn't willing to help you deal with the problem and refund fraudulent click spend, calculate the cost to your campaign overall and the negative effect it is having on your ROI, and perhaps try diversifying your ad spending with a more customer-friendly search engine for a time with a solid partner network to see if you can improve the situation.
