The Sheer Expanse of Search

To help keep things in perspective, I sometimes reflect on the relationship of a single paid campaign to the larger search marketplace. To do so, I look for the numbers on on the top search providers for the month. For December 2009, Google was in its usual lead position with 67.3% of the searches. What is mind-boggling, however, is the sheer number of searches involved — 6,697,223 (in the U.S.). The nearest competitor is Yahoo! at 1,434,866 and MSN/Bing at 986,247. The total of all searches, just in the U.S. is 9,945,576 for just that one month. Helps put things in perspective, doesn’t it?
