Pay Per Click Universe – January 19/09 – Vol. 6, Issue 2

Editor’s Note
Pay Per Click Universe Journal Now Published Twice-Monthly

In case you are wondering why you see a PPC Universe Journal in your emailboxes in the middle of January, just a reminder that we have begun to send out newsletters twice each month to keep you apprised of significant events in the PPC arena. And for those seeing nothing but bad news in the economy, there may be a small bright spot — for the B2B market at least. One recent study (BtoB Magazine, December 2008) shows that the plans of 6 out of 10 B2B marketers include new ad campaigns, with search engines and websites still incredibily popular with them as a source of leads (second only to the traditional favorite of trade shows). In general, online advertising may grow in popularity during difficult economic times because of its instant accountability and ease of access to campaign statistics as compared with more traditional types of advertising.

Yahoo! Stock: Still Not Worth It – January 15, 2009

Posted By CNET – “Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang is stepping down and Carol Bartz has taken the reins as the company’s new CEO. Most hope that she can fix Yahoo and return it to the place of dominance it once enjoyed. Or failing that, at least move it back into favor with shareholders. This will be difficult. The company was shaken by two rounds of layoffs during 2008 and a near shareholder coup over its treatment of Microsoft’s acquisition bid, which contributed to its 59 percent stock price decline from its 2008 high of $30 per share to its current $12.31 per share (a $17 billion market cap).” Read the rest of the news item here.

The price for advertising on Web sites of all sizes dropped by about 53 percent from Q4 2007 to Q4 2008, according to the index.” Read the rest of the news item here.

How Do Online Buyers Pay? – January 14, 2009

Posted By eMarketer Daily – “Most online buyers pay with credit cards. But the online credit card retail purchase volume growth rate is falling, and not just because of the recession. Data from a January 2009 Javelin Strategy and Research study reveals that credit card purchase volume will continue to grow online and command the largest market share among payment types, reaching $107 billion by 2013, up from $81 billion in 2008.” Read the rest of the news item here.

PPC Landing Pages: Surprising Examples – January 9, 2009

Posted By SearchEngineWatch – “It’s time to kick off the New Year by looking at examples of good and bad combinations of PPC ads and their landing pages. Featured Review – PPC Tool
Website Grader from HubSpot

“Website Grader is a free tool from HubSpot, Inc., that will analyze any URL and assign a grade to it, depending upon a number of features found on the site. You can use Website Grader to compare your site to a competitor’s, to find out which aspects you are performing well at in comparison, and which aspects need attention. There are a number of similar free tools available, mostly with a larger focus on search engine optimization, rather than aspects related to search engine marketing/paid search. However, Website Grader includes an analysis of keywords and identifies your top competitors in addition to a plethora of other factors, making it useful for PPC as well.” Read the entire review here.
