Pay Per Click Universe – July 18, 2011 – Vol. 8, No. 14

Editor’s Note
Contacting Google AdWords Just Got A Little Easier For Europe Too

Back in April, Google AdWords announced
that US and Canadian AdWords customers could contact them directly via phone for assistance. This past week, they announced that those in Europe (including the UK) could now also do so, and reach people for assistance who spoke local languages as well. You will need your customer ID, so you have to be a current customer to take advantage of this new form of support. If you need the phone numbers for the available countries, go here.

What You Need To Know About PPC Tablet Targeting – July 17, 2011

Posted By PPC Without Pity – “After announcing the tablet targeting feature a few months back, Google
finally rolled out tablet targeting to all AdWords users this week.
That’s great news if you have a lot of mobile users. Plenty of iPads
and Android tablets are getting sold every day, so the potential to get
PPC customers through tablet targeting is increasing as well. But
before you get too excited, there are a few things you should know
before you start creating tablet-targeted pay-per-click campaigns.” Read the rest of the news item here.

Using Top vs. Side Ad Segmentation To Make Bidding Decisions – July 15, 2011

Posted By PPC Hero – “As we reported yesterday, Google announced on Wednesday that you can now choose “Top vs. Side”
as a reporting segmentation option within AdWords. Sure, that seems
like interesting info, but why should I care? Not like I can tell Google
to only show my ads in the TOP position 1, not the SIDE position 1.  If
I can’t do anything what does it matter!” Read the rest of the news item here.

Bing Still Struggling in PPC as Google Readies Q2 Earnings Report – July 14, 2011

Posted By RKG Blog – “With Q2 over and the major search engines set to release their earnings
reports over the next two weeks, there’s a renewed focus on the
competition between them in PPC and a bunch of data being released for
us all to pore over.  So far, little information has come out to suggest
a significant turnaround for the struggling Microsoft/Yahoo Search
Alliance and RKG’s data does not break that pattern.” Read the rest of the news item here.

Posted By adCenter Blog – “Our imaginary account for ‘Shah’s Cars’ is now complete with campaigns,
ad groups and keywords. Next, we need to write some awesome ads. Writing

click-through-rate (CTR) and increase the campaign’s return on

6 Examples of Google+ Advertising – How Combining Search, Social, and Behavioral Targeting Could Be a Game-Changer for Marketers – July 12, 2011

Posted By Search Engine Journal – “I know what you are thinking.  Yet another Google+ post about how great
the social platform is and how it can kill Facebook.  Well, hold on a
minute and hear me out. Yes, I’ve been testing Google+ extensively over
the past two weeks.  Yes, I think Google did a fabulous job with its
social platform.  And yes, I think Facebook should be worried.  Google+
can definitely pull users and usage away from Facebook, which can
cause problems for the giant social network.  But I’m not here to write
about Google killing Facebook (or vice versa).  I’m going to write
about the unique advertising opportunities that are possible now that
Google+ has arrived.  No, the opportunities aren’t available yet (and
the screenshot above isn’t real), but they could be, and soon.

Needless to say, it’s an exciting time for digital marketers. Read the rest of the news item here.
