Google and Opera Make a Mobile Search Connection – December 30, 2005

Google Inc.’s search features will be included within the Opera Mini, a new browser for cell phones due next month from Norway-based Opera Software SSA. The one-year agreement with Google, unveiled Thursday, also calls for Google to be the default search engine for Opera Mobile, a cell phone Web browser now available from Opera. The deal is no surprise. Google is also the default search engine for Opera’s Web browsers meant for personal computers. In fact, the two companies’ ties run so deep that occasionally rumors surface that Google is buying Opera. Read the entire article here.

Google Base Makes A Jump - December 27, 2005

Clicking on a link to a listing in Google Base doesn’t go directly to the site with the listing, but to a Google Base jump page instead. Google has made a tweak to Google Base and where people end up after clicking on a link in the search results. Oodle.com noted a mention in the latest issue of Classified Intelligence of the change. Time Warner’s AOL and Google to Expand Strategic Alliance – December 20, 2005

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., NEW YORK, NY, and DULLES, Va., December 20, 2005 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and America Online, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX), today announced that they are expanding their current strategic alliance. The agreement creates a global online advertising partnership, makes more of AOL’s industry-leading content available to Google users, and includes a $1 billion investment in AOL by Google. This strategic alliance expands on the original relationship between the two companies launched three years ago. Read the entire press release here.

Interchange Corporation Chooses LookSmart’s Furl to Power Local.com’s Page Saving/Archiving System – December 13, 2005

San Francisco, CA, December 13, 2005 – Local.com, a leading local-search engine, and LookSmart Ltd. (NASDAQ: LOOK, ASX: LOK), announced today that LookSmart’s Furl.net (“Furl”) will be the archiving technology powering the “Save” feature on Local.com. Furl will allow users to easily save and organize pages found on Local.com and other sites around the Web. Furl’s “Save” feature creates a customized experience for the user, while driving repeat traffic to Local.com. “Matching local businesses and customers is a huge growth opportunity online and Local.com will continue to lead innovation in this market,” said David B. Kanoodle Pays For Cookie Distribution - December 6, 2005

New York – Kanoodle announced the launch of BrightAds Cookies, a new program that pays publishers for cookie distribution. Under the new program, small and midsize publishers will be able to generate additional revenue by adding code to their sites that distributes cookies to users. Cookies track user behavior on Web sites and allow advertisers to better target ads. Read the entire article here.
