Amazon.com Launches Self-Serve Ad Beta – November 3, 2006

In a major shift in strategy, e-commerce giant Amazon.com is using its A9 search subsidiary to power a new pay-per-click advertising network that will display targeted text ads alongside product pages. The Seattle-based online superstore on Thursday took the wraps off Clickriver Ads, a beta program that mimics traditional auction-based pay-per-click advertising programs. Local.com Being Positioned for 2007 Growth – November 2, 2006

IRVINE, CA, November 2, 2006 — IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2006 – Local.com (NASDAQ: LOCM), a leader in local search, today announced a new and improved version of the company’s popular local search engine. Ad Spend On Social Networks to Reach $2B in 2010 – November 1, 2006

Ad spending on U.S. social-networking sites in 2007 is expected to reach $865 million, up from $350 million in 2006, and will surpass $2 billion in 2010, according to eMarketer. Ad spending on social-networking sites will reach $2.15 billion in 2010, according to a new eMarketer report, "Social Network Marketing: Ad Spending Update." MySpace will continue to dominate, accounting for 60 percent of total U.S. online social-network ad spend in 2007. MySpace will account for $525 million in 2007 ad spend, up from $180 million in 2006. Read the entire article here.

Majority of Online Health-Related Queries Start on Search Engines – October 30, 2006

Sixty-six percent of online health-related queries originate on search engines rather than health-focused sites. "Online Health Search 2006" from Pew Internet & American Life Project finds almost half of health queries online are undertaken for another person. About 113 million adults, or 80 percent of U.S. Internet users, have searched online for at least one of 17 health topics relating to health. Two or more sites were visited by 72 percent of the group of health searchers during their latest query. Although multiple sources are visited, only one quarter of the group say they always check the source and date of the information they look up. As many as half of the group claim they never check the source for the quality of information. Read the entire article here.

Online Research Drives Electronics Purchases – October 25, 2006

Some 77 percent of consumer electronics (CE) purchases are influenced by internet research, according to research growing out of a collaboration between Yahoo and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Of the total $32.5 billion spent on the CE products tracked in the study, online research – including search engines, manufacturers’ and retail websites and shopping engines – influenced 77 percent, or $25.1 billion. Some 73 percent of consumers said comparing prices of a product found in different stores is easy to do online, and 64 percent said they prefer online because of the wider variety of products available for research; 45 percent of those who research online and purchase offline use a search engine during the information-gathering.
