Yahoo! Shows Brand Advertising Muscle With New Mini-Sites – December 1, 2006

Direct response ad king Google may be hinting at creating more viable options for big brand advertisers, but Yahoo is already there. The company’s latest plan to build online environments dedicated to entertainment brands is no exception. Recognizing users often convene around TV shows, films and games, the portal has begun building content hubs centered on the most popular among them. The publisher is shaking up the traditional branded entertainment model, however: It hasn’t solicited a cent from these companies to create its "brand universes." Read the entire article here.

Social Networking, Broadband Drive Internet Growth in Europe – December 1, 2006

Rising broadband penetration and an interest in using the Internet for personal connections are driving growth in Internet usage across Western Europe, according to a survey by the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA) and Synovate. In France, Norway, the UK, Sweden and Denmark, broadband penetration is at 84% or higher. Read the entire article here.

Cyber Monday Sales Hit Record $608 Million – November 29, 2006

NEW YORK ( — Total online purchases on Cyber Monday, one of the biggest shopping days for e-tailers, jumped 26 percent to a record $608 million, according to the latest numbers from ComScore Networks. "It [was] the highest single day in retail e-commerce history and the first day ever to break the $600 million threshold," Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Networks, said in a statement. Read the entire article here.

PPC Used Widely, But Not Well - November 27, 2006

Pay-per-click programs are widely used, but not all marketers have the resources available to properly use them, a new study reveals. Some 44 percent of e-commerce executives surveyed saying they allocate 20 percent of their entire advertising budgets to PPC. Among those who use PPC programs, all reported using Google, 90 percent said they use Yahoo, 76 percent use MSN, and 27 percent use, reports eMarketer, citing an e-tailing group study. comScore: Online Shopping Revenue Surges 23% - November 24, 2006

Online spending in the first three weeks of November is up 23% over the same period last year, according to a new report by comScore Networks. comScore found that non-travel online spending from Nov. 1 to Nov. 19 reached $6.35 billion, up from $5.18 billion in 2005. The research firm also reaffirmed its prediction that online holiday spending from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 will top $24 billion, marking a 24% increase over the 2005 holiday season. comScore expects Thanksgiving weekend to show a similar increase, with spending hitting $1.1 billion from Thursday to Sunday–up from $924 million over the same period last year. Read the entire article here.
