WebSideStory Buys Visual Sciences – February 2, 2006

Web analytics provider WebSideStory has acquired privately held Visual Sciences, a high-end data analysis and visualization software company, for $57 million.

“Visual Sciences is not a household name, but everyone in the web analytics business knows who they are. They have vaulted onto the scene and won the respect of everyone in our industry with the dynamic segmentation, multi-channel and real-time data visualization capabilities of their flagship Web analytics solution, Visual Site,” Jeff Lunsford, WebSideStory’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement. Revenue Science Adds To Its Network - February 2, 2006

Revenue Science has added shopping search site and consumer review site Epinions, both owned by eBay, to its behaviorally targeted ad network, giving advertisers access to users who are actively shopping for specific products.

“The notion of bringing in a site that’s very focused on commercial intent, in very vertical areas, is going to be very exciting to advertisers,” Nick Johnson, SVP of business development and general manager of account strategy for Revenue Science, told ClickZ News. Read the entire article here.

Companies Link Call, Online Conversion Services – February 1, 2006

In the latest merger of traditional and interactive companies, call measurement firm Who’s Calling, Kirkland, WA, said yesterday that it acquired ClickPath, Sacramento, CA, a cross-channel analytics provider.

The news follows a recent report predicting that the interactive marketing industry will see a flurry of mergers and acquisitions this year. Seventy-nine percent of 3,200 marketing executives surveyed by AdMedia Partners, New York, said they anticipated strong demand for mergers and acquisitions in the interactive space

Google Announces Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2005 Results – January 31, 2006

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 31, 2006 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced financial results for the quarter and year ended December 31, 2005.

“We are very pleased with our results for the fourth quarter as we achieved excellent performance across our businesses,” said Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. “We generated significant revenue growth in our core search and advertising business, driven by continued strength in traffic and monetization. We will continue to invest significantly as we develop innovative new products and as we extend our core technologies to new user access points and to different channels.”
Read the entire press release here. Breaks Big Online Effort - January 30, 2006, the joint venture between AT&T and Bell South, has kicked off a TV and online ad campaign that introduces the tagline “We wrote the book on local search.”

The campaign hopes to appeal to an audience that’s increasingly seeking information online, while also playing up its heritage as a child of the telco companies. GSD&M, the company’s agency of record, created both the television and online components. described it as a “multi-million dollar” campaign, but declined to get more specific about spending levels. The effort will run throughout 2006

After having refused to provide data on user activity requested by the U.S. Department of Justice, Google almost simultaneously yielded to the request of the Chinese government to not allow searches of certain phrases by users in China.
