Microsoft AdCenter Goes Live – May 4, 2006

Microsoft flipped the switch today on its AdCenter paid search platform. It’s now using it to run all ads on its U.S. search properties. Microsoft had been slowly increasing the portion of ads on MSN and Windows Live that were served by AdCenter instead of those from its expiring deal with Yahoo Search Marketing. Since late February, AdCenter has handled 70 percent of Microsoft’s ads on U.S. searches. Read the entire article here.

here.’s Second TV Ad Campaign To Break – May 3, 2006

Hoping to increase search engine market share, IAC will today break a branding campaign for that will air on national TV, including NBC’s “Today” show and “Saturday Night Live, reports MediaPost. The campaign was created by ad agency Berlin Cameron, and OMD handled the media buy. The campaign comes three months after Ask rebranded itself without Jeeves, the butler mascot, in an effort that involved a TV campaign created by TBWA/Chiat/Day. Marchex Acquires Assets of AreaConnect, Increasing Base of Local Traffic – May 2, 2006

Marchex, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHX, MCHXP) today announced that it has acquired certain assets of AreaConnect LLC, a provider of local online traffic to Yellow and White Pages publishers, for $16 million in cash and Marchex common stock, and $1.7 million in additional restricted common stock (valued based on the 10-day trailing average prior to the closing date). Amazon Switches To Microsoft From Google – May 2, 2006

Microsoft Corp. scored an important win against rival Google Inc. over the weekend, as began using its technology to power the Internet retailer’s A9 search unit. Microsoft’s new Windows Live is at the core of the company’s efforts to win online advertising dollars away from Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. A9 had previously been powered by Google.
