Google Likely To Stay Out of Web Browser Game – June 1, 2006

Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told industry analysts Wednesday that the Mountain View online search engine leader is unlikely to create its own Web browser, even though the company remains worried about being slighted by the next version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. To Unveil Blog and Feed Search – June 1, 2006 [formerly Ask Jeeves] today is set to unveil a new blog and RSS feed search, which will be available both on and IAC’s Bloglines Web-based feed reader. The blog search feature is the latest tool on the new, which underwent a redesign and rebranding in February. The new search results could impact traffic to blog publishers of all stripes, including ad-supported players and authors of corporate blogs. Read the entire article here.

Microsoft Looking To Invest, Innovate – May 31, 2006

NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Steve Ballmer told investors Wednesday to be patient as the world’s largest software company spends time and money developing new products and entering new markets. Echoing comments made earlier, Ballmer said Microsoft must invest heavily in the opportunities it sees. Even an established product like its flagship Windows operating system, which includes the Internet Explorer browser, “has to be watered periodically,” Ballmer said. Read the entire article here.

Marchex Acquires Assets of Open List; Open List to Complement and Accelerate Content Strategy For Marchex Web Sites – May 30, 2006

SEATTLE, WA – May 30, 2006 – Marchex, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHX, MCHXP) today announced that it has acquired certain assets of Open List, Inc. (, including its robust content aggregation, search technology, and user-generated content platform that Marchex plans to deploy to its proprietary network of vertical and local Web sites. Dell Embraces Google – May 25, 2006

Google and Dell have agreed to a first in a series of deals to preinstall Web and desktop search software on the PC maker’s computers, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said Thursday. Speaking at a Goldman Sachs conference in Las Vegas, Schmidt discussed details of a long-rumored deal between the No. 1 search engine and the No. 1 PC maker, which is a strike against Google rival Microsoft. Under the deal, millions of Dell PCs will be loaded with the Google toolbar for Web and PC search, along with a co-branded home page, before they’re shipped to consumers. Yahoo! And eBay To Join Forces In Partnership, Facing Google and Microsoft – May 25, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Internet powerhouses Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO) and EBay Inc. are joining forces in an alliance that further defines the battle lines in an online showdown with rivals Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and AOL. Under the multi-year partnership announced Thursday, Yahoo and EBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) will draw upon each other’s strengths in online advertising, payments and communications so they can connect with even more web surfers than they already do. Yahoo! Revamps Home Page, Enhances Features – May 17, 2006

Yahoo unveiled a redesigned home page on Tuesday in a further attempt to popularize its services with ever more efficient, responsive, and personalized interfaces. Without leaving the new home page, for example, users can conduct cursory checks of their mail, instant messenger accounts, Yahoo’s Launchcast Internet radio service, local weather and traffic reports, and movie listings.
