Clicksor is a Toronto, Canada-based division of YesUp Ecommerce Solutions, Inc., originally founded in 1999, but formally incorporated in 2001. The parent company’s focus is on ecommerce solutions through technical and marketing innovations, design and programming assistance.

Clicksor is YesUp’s pay-per-click company, but it differs from traditional PPC search engines in that it is primarily concentrated on converting visitors to your site into consumers via their product Content Marketing Technology. The technology attempts to match visitors to your site more closely to the service or product you are offering than other forms of PPC. Thus, their emphasis is designed to strive to improve your ROI more quickly, effectively and directly than other PPC advertising may. The process of choosing keywords and bidding for placement is essentially the same, but the emphasis is on content and context.

Contextual advertising is becoming a common trend in other PPC search engines, but Clicksor may have an advantage in this arena by its early entry into using this approach. The company claims to have over 200 million impressions per month because of partnerships with over 10,000 specialized websites.

Clicksor offers two options for contextual PPC – keyword or channel matching. If you chose Keyword Match, your ad’s keywords will be underlined, and as a visitor hovers over the keyword, a text banner appears describing your product/service. The user is taken to your website if they choose to click on the text banner or keyword. Channel Match works similarly, but concentrates more on the context of your website than keywords you have chosen in placing your ad on search results pages.

Reliance on affiliates is clearly a key part of Clicksor’s operations. Their PPC model includes not just a higher place for your ad, but also higher frequency of appearance on their publishers’ websites, as you manage your keyword bidding. They also share profits with their affiliates, reportedly up to 60% of the income.

In response to some recent comments by users that their clickthrough rates were abnormally low on Clicksor (one user cites .06%), Clicksor has just released a new “All in One” advertisement program that also places your linked keywords in the banner that comes up when someone originally clicks on your keyword, with the premise that this provides an extra opportunity for a clickthrough to your website.

Pros:
- In addition to a fairly traditional affiliate program, offers an interesting option for webmasters to earn $5 for referring other webmasters to Clicksor, if those new webmasters join the affiliate program.

- Online demo clearly illustrates how the contextual and keyword hover techniques work.

- Campaigns are normally begun within approximately 24 hours of submission of your keywords.

- Campaigns can be terminated at any time with full return of unused account balance, but a written request for termination is required.

- Payment option of PayPal, which makes it popular with international websites.

Cons:
- English-only ads accepted

- Ads appear to load very slowly which may deter visitors from waiting until the page is fully loaded.

- Although some users are uncertain if affiliates of Clicksor can also use Google (due to code needed to be inserted in page violating Google’s TOS), others claim to have had no problem with having both programs running at the same time.

- Apparent concentration on benefits of affiliate program over actual PPC products.
