Open An Account With BrainFox BrainFox is a small PPC search engine that bills itself as being “the leader in small business marketing” and a place “where smart marketers buy advertising”. It is a directory style PPC search engine with main offices in New York. Owned by an advertising company called eXact Advertising LLC, BrainFox has only been in business since June of 2000, joining the search engine market just as the growth cycle started into full gear. BrainFox claims to have over 20,000 advertisers with approximately 300 million search requests each month. Of course that data appears to date from mid-June of 2003, when the homepage was last updated. According to Alexa data, does indeed show a relatively low, but stable, daily reach per million of close to 200 (compared to about 150,000 on Google). There does seem to be a spike of activity in June of 2003, when the website appears to have last been updated. Activity fell off throughout the remainder of 2004 and has remained at its fairly stable, but relatively low level, even for a niche search engine, since the beginning of 2004. BrainFox may be beginning to position itself for a reorganization of some sort in that their parent company is currently seeking 4 high-level managerial type individuals to fill vacancies in their online advertising area. In particular, one of the job positions definitely appears to concern management of the paid listings section of the entity. BrainFox has a slightly different approach to expansion of its capabilities. Instead of seeking out partnerships with other search properties to increase exposure, BrainFox apparently is developing its own network called the BrainFox Network, composed of their own distribution portals they develop. More details are not immediately available on how exactly BrainFox is progressing along this path of expansion, and with new management imminently coming on board, the stated path on their website that is quite dated, may indeed change in the near future. If you are interested in looking into BrainFox as a possible search engine for PPC ads, they do have a very attractive offer for new clients of no fees, a very low $10 startup deposit, bids starting at 1 cent, and a 50% bonus on your first deposit (of $25 or more) into your account. Other features highlighted include an auto bid optimizer, IP tracking to help combat click fraud, and a tool called exactTrack, an ROI tracking system that provides continual feedback to you so that you can change your ad accordingly. Another somewhat different approach is an addition to their PPC listings of image ads rather than the traditional text-based PPC ads. These ads, which would be composed entirely of an image provided to BrainFox, apparently are bid upon as well for ranking. BrainFox is an interesting search engine, which looks as if it’s about to undergo some serious changes at the management level, perhaps in response to a perceived need to revamp their PPC program somewhat to fit the current model that is even now still evolving. Since the costs are so low, this may be a smaller search engine worth giving a try.
