Open An Account With AdBrite
AdBrite was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Billing itself as “the Internet’s Ad Marketplace,” AdBrite offers a number of possible advertising options for advertisers and publishers.
It boasts an ad network of more than 85,000 websites, which places it second to Google in terms of size. It has also been classified as the fifth-largest ad network in terms of pageviews, with about 1.3 billion ad impressions each day, and an estimated reach of 90 million unique US users for November 2008.
AdBrite’s strengths lie in its wide array of advertising options available and its transparency in terms of where ads will run and how they will be positioned on the page. Potential advertisers can check the AdBrite site directory, divided into a large number of categories, and see detailed information on the actual cost of the various options available on each site, average number of clicks and CPC, where the traffic comes from, pageviews and unique users per day figures, length of time on AdBrite, and conversion scores if they are available.
Three types of ads are offered: text, banner, and full-page ads. Up until recently, only text ads had a cost-per-click (CPC) pricing option, but in late November 2008, graphical banner ads were also offered in a CPC format as well as the more traditional CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions).
AdBrite’s text ads can be placed within the content of sites you choose from the ad network, via their BritePic and inline product lines. With BritePic, when a visitor hovers over an image, the ad caption is shown. Inline ads let you show an ad only when a visitor scrolls over certain word(s). Banner ads are available in the five standard shapes/sizes, while the full-page ads appear while a user is browsing the site and are charged on a cost-per-view basis.
Advertisers can target by keyword, location, demographic (age and gender), and content. Conversions can be tracked with the addition of a single piece of code on your website. Daily budget limits and maximum CPCs are available, with no minimum spend.
Campaign creation is quick and simple, and accounts are typically active within 24 hours. Although the power of AdBrite is the transparency that gives you a lot of information to make choosing where to place your ads simple, you should not restrict ad placement too much until you have a better idea of how your particular products/services fit into the general network.
Recent news (October 2008) concerning the layoff of 40% of AdBrite’s workforce is troublesome, but the switch from brand-based to performance-based CPM model is hoped to help the company through the general global economic difficulties.
The variety of ad types and placements available, combined with the easily accessed site directory to help advertisers judge where best to place their ads, makes AdBrite worth investigating as an alternative to Google if one is looking to diversify your advertising.
