MyKeywordFinder is yet another online tool that can help you choose and fine tune your keyword phrase list for pay-per-click advertising campaigns. Still in beta mode, and only released in August 2006, the tool is currently free. Users are encouraged to report any bugs they may come across or questions or problems they had in using the tool, so the developers can improve the final version. One must register on the site in order to gain access to the beta version.

The tool is fairly simple to use and can provide both basic and more detailed information on specific keywords or phrases. One can adjust the number of related keywords you wish to have presented to you, the degree to which you want to limit the matching (“strict”, “relative”, or “all match”), as well as an interesting filter of “standard” results versus “SEO expert” results. You can add any of the keyword phrases to a “session” section, which uses AJAX technology to keep track of your work while using the tool, for download into a preferred format later.

For a search for “computer monitors”, the standard results brings up that phrase as well as other related keywords phrases, with the number of requests per month from all the search engines included in their database. If you wish to see more detail, you should search using the “SEO expert” button, which will return (in addition to the number of requests per month) the probability per 100,000 requests that the term will occur, and a breakdown of the requests per month by “major” search engines (Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! only), as well as the number of times each month the terms will be expected to appear in the Top 10 of each of the three search engines.

A limitation of the tool is that search words of less than 4 letters are omitted and keyword phrases are limited to 5 words. It’s unclear if these restrictions will be removed once the tool is out of beta mode. Their database is said to include over 90 million queries and almost 24 million key phrases, rather than being based on the last month or few months of search data, as some other keyword tools are.

Sample keyword searches conducted highlight a couple of strange anomalies. For each search attempted, using the SEO expert mode, the number of requests per month for Microsoft and Yahoo! were exactly the same (e.g., “computer monitors” yielded 5,658 for Google, 2,593 for Microsoft, and 2,593 for Yahoo!). The same was true for searches for keywords as varied as “digital cameras” and “dog food”.

It’s a little too soon to place any real judgment about MyKeywordFinder, as it is still in beta and has been online a mere 3 months. What makes it different and unique are the probability stats that are thrown in with the usual keyword search data. Since it is free to use at this point, you may want to give it a try along with the other tools in your keyword analysis arsenal.
