There are many tools and applications available to help you conduct keyword research for whichever specific PPC niche you have chosen to enter, but once you know which keywords you want to focus on, the tedious work of getting them into the AdWords program begins. JUMBO Keyword is one new tool (released in April 2009) that will help streamline that process and help get your keywords into the format they need to be in to take advantage of all that AdWords offers. JUMBO Keyword has over 70 functions, all accessible with one click, and is entirely web-based, so there is no software to download or application to install. It’s also free, with only some scrolling ads on the site as the “price to pay” for its use.
As with most similar tools, once you type in or copy your keyword list to the screen at the website, you can manipulate it in any way available by choosing to click the appropriate buttons in the collection on the left of the page. If you are starting with plain text keywords, the tool will format them according to which match type you are going to use with AdWords — broad, phrase, or exact. You can choose one or more of the types and it will apply the format, copying the keywords where needed to fulfill your request. It will also come up with a negative keyword list if that is your choice, sort by match type or keyword group, sort by bids or URLs if those are included, and various other AdWords-related format specifics. There are also a number of strictly formatting functions, for deleting spaces or different types of characters, capitalization or making lower-case, joining or breaking lines, sorting and deduping. In short, just about anything you can do with an AdWords keyword, you can carry out here in an easy-to-use and straightforward manner.
If you are new to AdWords, you may choose the Basic interface which shows the top ten most commonly used functions, or if a bit more experienced, you will find all of the functions under the Advanced tab. Finally, an Ad-Maker option displays the standard AdWords setup and lets you experiment, showing you how resulting ads would look in different sizes (the standard as well as in the wider, top-three setup). When you are finished, you can save the ads created as a text file for uploading.
It may be a simple tool, but if you are juggling hundreds of keywords, it’s nice to have something that will quickly and easily do some of the repetitive tasks that you may not have the macro skills yourself to handle, especially if it’s free to use. You can carry out the keyword format manipulation in a straightforward manner, upload them and your ads to Google and get back to checking your analytics and making sure your Quality Score is on the plus side before you know it!
